John 8:1-59 "A STUDY OF THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN"
There are many who refute the accuracy of the first 11 verses of this 8th chapter of John simply because they nit-pik at vs-1 in particular as being contradictory to the last verse in chapter 7 where it says, “And evÂery man went into his own houseâ€. Then vs-1 in the 8th chapter starts with “Jesus went into the Mount of Olivesâ€. Any attempt to set aside any part of the Holy Scripture by the hand of the Pharisees or their stooges is not a new thing. John 1:15 establishes the testimony of John the bapÂtist, for the Jews sent their henchmen to find out if he, John, were either the Christ or Elias. . .John 1:15-28. It seems as if the Jews had not the eyes to see nor the ears to hear. In John 8 we are shown the nation while it is under the control of the Romans, and even the state of the Temple as it has fallen into the hands of the Edomites. Read on Christians for you will see that chapters 3 thru 6 are filled with the same Khazarian inspired line of conÂtempt for Yahweh our God and His Christ. You read of a member of the sanhedrin who is dead in sin and trespasses, needing to be born again, and the Jews are quibbling with Johns disciples about purifycation. The Jews sought to persecute Jesus for healing the sick, the lame, the blind and forgiving sin. In chapter 7 we read that the chief priests and the Pharisee sect of Jewry had sought to have Jesus taken and arrested, vs-45! The fact that Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives while every other man went into his own home is a contrast which conveys a double thought that is in harmony with this book of John. That He went into the Mount of Olives would suggest the elevation of Christ and at the same time it tells of the humiliation of the Saviour. Every man had a home to go into, the fox has a hole or den and the bird has a nest...but the son of man had no place to lay His head. Jesus went unto the Mount of Olives because He owned no house, or not down here. He who was rich in eternity became poor in time for our sakes. Verse 2 says that early in the morning Jesus came to the temple and the people came unto Him and He taught them. What do you think Jesus taught these of the faithful? For all of you in the World church it will shock and amaze you to know that Jesus taught the law of God and how it looked forward to, and would be effective in the coming kingdom of God. We read from Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His rightÂeousness". A kingdom is not governed by accident or chance, it is governed by law. Not for one second do I believe that God is going to allow man to make the law for himself. What Jesus implied in this 33rd verse is that we need to begin each and every day in the same manner and that is seeking the face and blessing of God. If we did this, how different our lives would be, we would get a fresh supply of God’s grace every day. "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me". .Prov 8:17. "And early in the morning He came again into the templeâ€, this signifies that He came at daybreak and it says that He came at this time to teach the people. Remember what we just read from Matt 6:33 and draw this conclusion from what the scripture said and the time of day here in vs-2. The lesson learned is that “we need to begin the day by seeking the face and the blesÂsing of God"...Proverbs 8:17! From what we gather after reading this 2nd verse of John:8 is, there were many who took the Proverb lesson to heart for they came to be taught of Him and, "He sat down and taught them". I know that the scripture says “all the people came†and the Arminian Social church uses this as a basis for their “who so ever will may comeâ€. We must never lose sight of Genesis 5:1 and the fact that the Holy Bible is a historical record of the Adamic Race and a Particular seed out of that Race. All, used here simply means that there were present in that assembly all kinds of condiÂtions of Israelite men, men of varied age and social standing also men of each of the 12-tribes. "THE THING THAT WE DO NOT WANT TO MISS HERE IS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS 30 YEARS OF AGE AND IS IN THE INFANCY OF HIS MINISTRY". In accordance with the Law of God (which most of the Social church has abandoned as too antiquated) A Priest begins his ministry and work in the tabernacle of the congregation at the age of 30-yrs..Numbers 4:1-3,23,30,35 &39,. and not one day before. This some-what calm morning was soon overclouded by an ominous disturÂbance which had been, unknown to most, carefully planned with subtle yet malicious intent on the part of some in a position of authority. We need to read again verses 3 thru 11.. .we will come to know this as “The plot of the Scribes and the Phariseesâ€. These scribes and pharisees literally did drag this woman to the temple, not for any reason or purpose stipulated under the law, but as an attempt to entrap the man Jesus who had already established a public image as being blameless (without sin), a teacher who was held in high esteem by the multitude and proclaimed by many to be a Prophet in their day. Now, these men who had brought the woman to Jesus professed publicly great reverance for the law as they say “Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanÂded us that such should be stoned; but what sayest thouâ€? We should underÂstand here that the conduct of the scribes and pharisees was not dictated by their abhorrance of this sin, for scripture shows that the loose and pagan Roman culture had penetrated into every facet of community life in Judea and most particularly among the Edomite Jews who sat in Moses seat. If these men were sincere they would not have brought the woman to Jesus, they would have taken her to a lawful judge. You can read all of chapter-7 for clarification on the true feelings of the Jews where Jesus was concerned. As we stated, they could have cared less about the adultress and her sin, their aim was that they might accuse Jesus. . .even if they had to bend the law for their own purpose. The law did not make adultery a capital offÂense in the case of all adultresses, but did attach the punishment of stonÂing to the case of betrothed virgins, Deut 22:32-24. Now, the pharisees did present a serious dilemma to Jesus. If He said that the woman should be stoned He placed Himself on a collision course with the Roman governÂment in Judea which had the power of life and death in its own hands, and in any case it did not punish adultery with death. If He said that she should not be punished He would be charged with opposing the Law of Moses and quickly represented or exposed by the Sanhedrin as a false Messiah; for the true Messiah was to establish the supremacy of the law. And, if He pronounced a severe judgement He would lose His popularity with the people, for He had the reputation of showing mercy to sinners. Looking at verse 6 we see that Jesus began to completely baffle the pharisee jews. The King James translation says that "He stooped down and wrote on the ground as though He heard them not", and vs-7 says that He stood up and said “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stoneâ€. Several translators say He wrote on the ground and others say that He cast His eyes downward. Either way, He completely ignored them, forcing them to continue their false motives in pushing for a ruling from Him. Such an intention by Jesus of ignoring the jews was like He had heard and seen nothing of what had happened. The jews continued to push for an answer from Jesus, and I imagine that the tension surrounding the entire situation was mounting. The question of the jewish accusers was still not answered, "This is Moses’ law;what sayest thou"? Remember, the whole conÂtext of this matter was not one of justice but was malicious and crafty. This query brought by the jews was one in an attempt to tempt Him. When He did answer them it was both definite and effective, "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her"! He did not say “Let her be stoned†as that would have made Him to be harsh and unmerciful or to be in opposition to the law of Moses . However, His answer did achieve one great end in that it moved the question out of the judicial sphere comÂpletely. Jesus did not claim the right of civil magistrate to either inÂflict or decree punishment. His answer totally disarmed the self appointed judges of the woman by placing them in a position where they too could be brought into judgement. These sneaky little jew devils waited until Jesus looked down again and slipped away one by one until Jesus and the woman were the only ones left. We are not to expect that all of those who were present were guilty of the particular sin of adultery and therefore could not by self judging be a party of the stoning. What is the case is that some of them were not free from the desire to indulge in that particular sin or others of equal magnitude. What The answer of Jesus did mean was “personal chastity was the moral condition for those who would accuse, judge and execute this very severe law.†What we see here is the question in the minds of these particular men “Am I prepared, with my foul heart and spurious zeal, to encounter the displeasure of Roman authority and power by stoning this woman to death?†Evidentally the conclusion was that they had been snared into their own trap so they sneaked away. The only men who sneaked away were the accusers, for the scripture offers proof that not all present had gone away for vs-9 tells us that “Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midstâ€. In the midst meant among those still present whom Jesus had come to teach. Upon lifting up His eyes Jesus asked “Woman, where are thy accusers? Hath no man con- demned thee?†When the woman said “no man Lord†Jesus said unto her “neiÂther do I condem thee; go and sin no more.†The question that Jesus put forth to the woman did not excuse her sin, nor imply any blindness to it. It was designed to lead her to serious thoughts of it. The woman did not deny the sin and the answer that Jesus gave, “Neither do I condem theeâ€, does not imply forgiveness. It is a declaration of sufferance, not justiÂfication, and was put forth to lead her to repentance and faith. There is a strong lesson to be learned in these first eleven verses of John chapter 8! First we are readily able to see that the most depraved and wicked sinner is the most harsh in judgement. The next thing we could find is that the servant who has been forgiven one-hundred talents or pounds by his master is the most likely to abuse his fellow servant who owes him fifty. He who has a beam in his own eye is the first to charge his brother with having a mote. . .Matt 7:3-5. Gladly we learn that the most holy are the most merciful and, Jesus was so purely holy that He could afford to be abundantly merciful. He is the enemy of sin and the friend of sinners, so we must say that the climax of His holiness is love and mercy. Next we are shown that outward morality may stand the test of a human judge, but not that of a Divine One. The thing that is real and immortal in man is spiritual and all that he us spiritÂually is what he is to God. Jesus was more tender to the tempted and fallÂen sinful woman than He was to her holier than thou-hypocrite accusers. Then what we may fully draw upon as followers of Christ is this; The greater the opposition to Jesus the more brightly His character shone; The character of Jesus was never brighter than in this cunning and dark plot to entrap Him. His superior knowledge, wisdom, authority, holiÂness and mercy shone so brilliantly that in the fiery furnace we do not see One like unto Him, but we see the very Son of man and the very Son of God. . . and from this the poor sinful woman derived a great advantage over her accusers. On the tide of their hatred, not for her but rather for Him, she was carried into the lap of Love. And because of the seething vindictÂiveness of the Jews, she was thrown into the warm embrace of Divine Grace. In verse 12 Jesus was again speaking in the temple when He said, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of Life". . .and the Jews called him a liar when they said “thy record is not true!†Jesus spoke these words early in the morning as the sun rose and its light pierced the very corners of the temple. Those in the temple would give recognition to the light of the sun and Jesus took this opportunity to reveal Himself as the world’s light. What the sun is to a physical world, Jesus is to the moral world. We must go back to the prologue of this book and read John 1:4-5..."in the Logos was life, and the life was the light". ‘ Then where it says “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not†would be better interpreted as “And the light shone into the darkness before the incarnaÂtion". Jesus is the light of the world because He is the source of life. It does say in verse 3 that “all things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made. If you would, notice the words in verse-12 whicht Christ used to make His declaration, “I am"! If you look through Johns gospel you will note a great frequency of use of that expression. What does it imply? Exodus 3:13-14 when Moses wanted to know what he was to say to the people when they asked after God's name, he was told to say “I AM†hath sent me unto youâ€. This was the Hebrew tetragrammation YHWH which is Yahweh, the name of our God, the "Great I AM". When Jesus Christ spoke those two words in John 8:12. . ."I AM", it implied that the world was morally dark. The moral condition of the world and its inhabitants was like the world as described in Genesis 1:2.. "And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the the face of the abyssâ€. God’s Israel people and even the earth itself had moved away from its proper origin and had wandered into moral gloom. All of creation had become spiritually ignorÂant of Yahweh-God and flaunted its immorality. The people of God were so depraved that they surely walked each and every day in the valley of the shadow of death. When Jesus said those words “I AM†He spoke concerning His position as the second subsistance of the Trinity and not from the position of His manÂhood. Though it is true that He is the physical light of the world, He is also the mental light of the world. Pure intellect and reason are the emanations of His God-nature; If He hides his face they are shadowed and if He withdrew his support, they would be extinguished. He is the Spiritual light of the world, the Light of heart and conscience. Jesus is the source of spiritual knowledge, He is the revealer of God and man, their mutual relationships and the access to peace with Him. Jesus as the light of the world is the source of spiritual holiness, and of mans sanctification. In John 1:4 it stipulates that “Light is life and life is lightâ€, the main part of that verse is that it said “IN HIM was lifeâ€. In John 14:6 Jesus speaking to His disciples said, “I AM the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by meâ€. The Light which is Christ shines upon the elect of God in Christ and brings them to the Father. Without the Light which is Christ the Elect would stumble in darkness just as the reprobate. When Jesus spoke in John 8:12 and said “I AM the light of the world†He is saying that no matter where the Race of Adam is located, Eastern or Western hemisphere Europe, Australia America, His light was sufficient for all. As a prophet the whole family of Adam may sit at His feet and be taught of Him; as King His scepter rules over all; as High Priest He does hold the entire human Race of Adam-kind in His arms and successfully, He pleads for them. The sacrifice that He presents is not for but one man in the Race of Adam, rather it is for the entire Race because as the God of creation He has the right to it. .John 1:1-3! When Jesus answered the Pharisees in verse 14 it becomes clear for all the world to see the blindness of His accusers. He bears record of HimÂself and His record is true. If He did not bear this record, who would, or could? It was of a necessity that He bear record of Himself, for who among men could relate the story of Him whose goings forth have been from eterÂnity? Who?.. .No one but Jesus! Jesus knew what no other human being could know (yes, we refer to Him here as a human being, for He was both God and man..two seperate and distinct natures). He was too intelligent to make mistakes, too pure in character to deceive and too great to over-rate HimÂself. We say this last thing about over-rating, because that is what morÂtal man does when he speake of himself. On the other hand, Jesus could not have made Himself greater than He was. However, He did make Himself less for it says in Philippeans 2:7 that He “made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant. It is our destiny Christian Israelites to follow Jesus for it is the only way to avoid the darkness of a world that is apart from Him. If we follow Him we will find that the valley of the shadow of death will become as the light of the noon-day sun. There are those in the social church who say that the fact-that Christ admits to bearing record of Himself is contradictory of what He said at an earlier confrontation brought on by the Jews, chapter 5 vs-31; “If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not trueâ€. Then He goes on in vs-32 to testify to these jews that there is a Divine witness who testifies of Him and He reveals in verse 37 that this one is God the Father. The main difÂference in Jesus addressing the Pharisee jews in chapter 5 and in chapter 7 is this; In ch-5 you will find no place prior to the testimony of bearÂing witness of Himself where the declaration “I AM†is used by Christ as we see it done in ch-8 (vs-12 & 14).: However you will find in vs-43 of that 5th chapter a declaration so strong that the foundations of His Church, His body are strengthened in, “I AM come in my Fathers name†or, “I AM Yahweh, you receive me notâ€. What those who are milk fed in the Social church must see here if they ever are going to get to the meat of scripture is this: In ch-5 Jesus has spoken of Himself as mere man up to that point in vs-43, where in ch-8 He declares His Divine nature in vs-12. The answer that Jesus gave in vs-14 claims His true position; First-His own teaching is sufficient for it is supported by sufficient guarantees; Second-Christianity is based on the testimony which Jesus gave of Himself. . “And still if I bear testimony of myself, my testimony is true, because I know from where I came and where I goâ€. Christ knows that He descended from heaven and that He is “to go away†to heaven. The ignorance of the Pharisee Jews to these two facts is much to their reproach, both in that day and even until now and into the future. Jesus told these offspring of the seed of the serpent that their judgements were based on appearances, “Ye judge after the fleshâ€. Thus in judging in this manner the Jews deemed Jesus to be an ordinary man, a sinÂner such as themselves. These Canaanite Jews in judging Christ after the flesh both condemned Him and repudiated His claim to being the “Light of the world†and “The Living Water†of John 4:11-14 and Rev 7:17. The statement of Jesus, “I judge no man†is taken by the modern church to read “I judge no man as you do†when in truth He was saying that the time for judging is not yet. . .but if it were, “my judgement is true: for I AM not come alone, but I and the Father that sent meâ€(note the reference to divinity here).; This is a deep meaning message people; “I and the Father who sent me†says that Divine judgement does not rest on the mere human consciousness of Jesus but on the eternal decisions or purpose of Him who gave Jesus his commission. If the Pharisee Jews had any spiritual discernment at all they would have recognized His Divine Nature. (In John 1:34 we read the words of the evanÂgelist “And I saw and bare record that this is the Son of God; and in vs-36 “And looking upon Jesus as he walked he saith, Behold the Lamb of Godâ€).; John had something that the Pharisee's did not have, never did have nor ever will have and that is discernment given by the Spirit of God to reÂcognize HIM! The Jews judged and formed judgement without seeking higher guidance, for their higher authority was with-in themselves. The truth of the matter of judgement whereof Jesus spoke was within the confines of the law handed down at Sinai, “And it is moreover written in your law, that the testimony of two men is trueâ€. Scripture that we have read in ch-8 vs-16-18 shows us the dual witness of Father and Son. Now we need to take this moment to see just how much nit-picking goes on in the organization of the Social church structure. In vs-17 Jesus said “It is also written in your lawâ€. There are those who use this to relate the fact that Jesus had an adverse stance to the Law because it was now abolished by His very presence. The words spoken here are not anti-nomian but they can be construed as anti-Judaic. . .Jesus upheld the Law as given to Israel at Sinai while ,without saying a derrogatory word, He condemned the mongrelized use of that same law by the Jews. Now, when Jesus spoke as He did in verse 18 of how both He and the Father did bear witness of Him, His words reflected his own Divine self consciousness, and they bore witÂness to his unique position. His words brought out His inner thoughts and revealed the light that was true light. The word, the very speech of Christ was a fire that was kindled and would never be extinguished, yet it did not stand alone. The Father that sent Him, by a long line of events and revelÂations,by signs, miracles and wonders and by prophecy and providential con- currance of facts was bearing witness concerning Him. They, the Pharisee jews, said to Him, in anger and willful irony “Where is thy Father?†These words were spoken by the Jews in scorn of Christ and of His Father; (You can offer up any explanation you so desire or maks any defense you please for that one statement or question "Where is thy Father" but "scorn" is the only one that stands on it's own!) They did not ask Who is your Father but “Whereâ€, in the sense that he may be produced before them as a witness to the claims of Jesus. His answer to the Jews was one for the books people. . . “Ye neither know me, nor my Father: If ye had known me you would have known my Father also.†By asking what they did shows not just their ignorance of the Divine nature of the Son but also their ignorance of the Father, which really was necessiÂtated morally by their ignorance of the Son. . .For it is the Son who reÂveals the Father. How strongly those words hit home, "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also"...No man can know the Father, but he to whom the Son reveals Him. The eye of faith needs to supplement the eye of sense and just the opposite for; The eye of sense tells us that that these had no eye of Faith or they would have seen the Father revealed in the Son. Now listen people, if you think that Jesus was meek or quiet in this discourse with the jews think again. Where are the jews most promiÂnent and boastful? In the money places, banks and lending institutions and great merchandising institutions. Where did this little set-to with the jews take place? Verse-20 tells us that “These words spake Jesus in the treasury (of the temple)â€. He was standing in the very center of Jewish life, under the very watchful eyes of the Sanhedrin Council. And even though the jews stood ready to seize Him and destroy Him, they were restrained by something outside themselves from laying hands upon Him “for His hour was not yet come.†In verse-21 we see or read words of warning to these Pharisee's and the importance of the present hour. This was probably on the last day of this Feast of Tabernacles that Christ spoke this warning; “I go my way and ye shall seek me, and ye shall die in your sins: "whither I go ye cannot come" and "Ye shall die in your sins". These jews who were of dubious or very questionable ancestry were being told that the coming Kingdom of God was closed to them, and the church in the world teaches that it is simply beÂcause they rejected Him. My dear christian friends, the Jews rejected Him then, and still do today and it has nothing to do with faith. . . it is all in the ancestry, the blood line, the Race or the DNA! This will all be brought out and made crystal clear as we go forth in this 8th chapter of John. The jews had no conception of fact where this statement of Christ was concerned (whither I go ye cannot come). They actually thought that He planned suicide, little knowing (or caring) that His death was a matter fixed by the “determinate counsel and foreÂknowledge of Godâ€. The Social church that seeks to convert the jews is in the process of trying to convert Satan the devil. Jesus said to the jews “Whither I go ye cannot come†and this was different than what He said to Simon Peter in John 13:36, “Whither I go ye canst not follow me NOW; but you shall follow me afterwardsâ€. Then in John 14:1-4 Christ told the disÂciples that He was going to prepare a place for them and receive them unÂto Himself, and that they knew where He would go and the way to get there themselves. But to the jews He said “NO WAYâ€, "Whither I Go You Cannot Come"!! Because of their ancestry as the seed of the serpent their search after the Messiah would be in the day of their overwhelming despair. The sin of the jews is as the sin of their father the devil, the sin of pride and of unbelief. Is it so difficult to see the great chasm that is the moral seperation between our Christ and the Jews? "Ye are from beneath,I AM from above:ye are of this world;I AM not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM He, ye shall die in your sins". We have already seen many times in scripture where jesus has said that He came, He descended or He was sent. Broadly speaking this is true, as a contrast between Christ and all men before their regeneration. When He says to the jews “Ye are from beneath†He levels the charge of “That which is born of the flesh is flesh†against them which defines them as earth-bound souls, purely selfish, unspiritual, unbelieving, ungodly, unrenewed men who in their anÂtagonism for Him (and because they are who they are) refuse to walk in His light. The jew has never seen the King or the kingdom because they are not born of the Spirit. They have never possessed the living soul that is passed down through the Race of Adam, and never will. Verse 24 leaves no doubt as to the end that faces the jews, “in unbelief ye shall die in your sins". Wow, the Social church kicks up its hind legs at this one. They cannot accept that even Christ could speak so final and with such harshness of the destiny of unbelievers, especially the jews. I say to the social church, “Men, even the Elect in Christ, will not turn from the world and toward Christ until they recognize their imminent danger of the wrath to comeâ€. Listen people and remember this. . . “Ye shall die in your sins†exÂposes a modern church error concerning the Atonement. The modern Social church, forgetting that Genesis 5:1 says that this is the Book of the Race of Adam, teaches that Christ bore the sins of all men when He died on the cross. They insist that the entire sin question was dealt with and settled at Calvary. They also declare that the only thing that can send any man to hell (eternal seperation from God), is his rejection of Christ. Nothing could be more unscriptural than this false doctrine of un-limited AtoneÂment. Christ bore the sins of all believers, but for the sins of unbelievers there was no atonement made. “Ye shall die in your sins†could never have been spoken if the intent of the Atonement was to remove all sin from before God. Now don’t say that this is exactly what Christ did intend, because if this is your belief, you have a saviour other than Jesus Christ, because sin is still in the earth. As a word of warning which does not come from the Bible but from one who is struggling under the burden of his own sin nature. . . “If you choose to affilliate with a Social world church that has hitched its wagon to the falling star of the jew you have made the first step in choosing death over life. I pray that you will heed the words of the writer of the Book of Hebrews, chapter 10:22-39. Listen to the words of the jews in vs-25 as they apeak to Jesus, “Who art thou?†I would venture that there is not a true Caucasian Israelite alive today who would have to ask this question of Christ if He were to speak to them and say all that He has said to these jews in the first 24 verses of this 8th chapter of John. How great was their unbelief? They had received line upon line, precept upon precept. . .Isa 28:9-13. . .and yet they rejected Christ and all that He spoke. These jews had heard nothing but one consistent declaration of truth, yet there was no spiritual or even intellectual response to His teachings. The jews asked “Who art thou†and Christ told them that He was essentially that which He had already declarÂed Himself to be. . .the Way the Truth and the Life/Light. A believer may know the truth, walk in the truth and speak the truth, but he is not the truth. Christ was and is and in this we perceive his exalted uniqueness. The Son of God has come and given us understanding and we can say of the Pharisee jews of old and of today, “How utterly without excuse is their unbelief.†In verses 26 thru 29 Jesus has a still fuller revelation to give these jews concerning their moral condition. Up to this point in chapter 8 our Lord had spoken many things which we can say are “self-revelation†on His part. Here Jesus is saying to the jews, “I have some things to say that you may not care to hear. . .The Testimonies and the judgements may be proÂfoundly distasteful to you, but I dare not withold them.†In the remark. . “He that sent me is true†is only a declaration of His Father concerning their actions. Jesus is the Word of God incarnate, thus He is the speaker of irreversible judgement, and the expression of speech; “The things which I heard of Him, these I speak into the world†seem to place Him separate from the world so that He appears here as the “Mediator between two worlds. Even then we read that the jews did not understand that He spoke of the Father, for it seems like they are unable to recognize the Divine origin of judgement. Even when Jesus had said to them in vs-19..â€Ye neither know me, nor my Father†they did not suppose that God, the Supreme Father, was being suggested to them as the witness to the validity of all that Christ had said of Himself. Look around at the jewish residue in the world and their ignorance of anything morally correct or godly need not astonish you. “When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I AM He, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things.†When Christ spoke of being lifted up He was expressing to the jews that He knew how He would die and who would do the deed. His very death on the Cross at their hands would be the catalyst that was to be His ascension into glory. Though He was to be crucified in weakness He would be raised up in Power and the absolute unity between Son and Father would be as it was before He was sent into the world to work the will of Yahweh ÂElohim. When the deed is worked by the jews and Jesus has been lifted up the proof of His words that “I AM He†will be completed. The "He that hath sent Me" in vs-26 is replaced in vs-28 by “the Father that hath taught me†and in vs-29 by “the Father that hath not left me alone". The Cross and the Crown will prove to the most bigoted and obtuse that “I AM that which I say I AM.†When Jesus said that “the Father is with me†He was declaring that God the Father was not inaccessible to Him or indifferent to His misÂsion . When Jesus declares to the jews that the Father is with Him, He is answering the question put to Him in vs-19. . “Where is thy Father?†Jesus says thatâ€the Father hath not left me aloneâ€. . .God has not for one second ever left Jesus alone to his own human nature. By this, He declares Himself absolutely free from sin, even in thought and deed and left undone nothing that is pleasing to the Father. Verse-30, “As He spake these words, many believed on Himâ€. The Social Church gets all puffed up over this statement and claims it to be one of the first steps in the salvation of the jews and their return to great prominance in God’s eyes. What we have here is a failure to communicate for we are witnessing here the intellectual acceptance of Jesus by some jews. They accepted His statements and believed Him to be the Messiah. . .but listen people, the Devil, that Old Serpent, Satan believes Him to be the Messiah, for he knows that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and is God in His own right. Yes, they believed but they were not true believers or they wouldn’t have sought to kill Him as is so stated in vs-37. This is not to say that there were none present who believed, for there were many true Israelites in Judea who believed that Jesus was the Christ and the Son of the One true and ever living God. .John 1:45-49. As for the claim of the social church on vs-30 that many believed and vs-31 that some of these were Pharisee jews I would like to quote Pastor A. W. Pink’s commentary on the book of John (which he devoted 15-years to); “As He spake these words, many believed on Him.†(Pink says) "This does not mean that they believed to the saving of their souls, the verses that follow (31-59) do evidence that saving grace was not the case. Probably nothing more is sigÂnified here than that they were momentarily impressed so that their enmity against Him was temporarily allayed. Many were evidentaly struck by what they observed in the demeanor of Christ. His patience in bearing the perÂverseness of His enemies, His composure when speaking of such a horribly cruel death as that of the Cross and His positive sense of the Fathers approval. The impression of belief by these jews was but a fleeting one, and their believing on Him amounted to no more than the question of those in John 7:31 who supposedly believed in Him,When Christ cometh, will He do more miracles than these which this man (Jesus) hath done?†We owe a big Amen and a big Thank You to this Dear Brother! “Then said Jesus to those jews which believed on Himâ€. The entire strucÂture of scripture form this point on to the end of this 8th chapter, vs-59, becomes the record of a vivid conflict between the Lord Jesus Christ and the jews who believed Him. These gave the impression that they were ready to accept the Messianic claim, yet they persisted in interpreting these claims, not by His Word but by their own idea of a “Theocratic Kingdomâ€; by their "supposed claim" to being the children of Abraham and by their inability to press behind or beyond the veil of His humanity to His Divine nature. Their faith and belief was of the most imperfect kind. Those who had become believers were now waitÂing for some special sign that their belief of His words was to be immediÂately rewarded by some close conformity between His next great step and their own possessions. That would be to say,â€Okay Jesus, I know what you did for me yesterday and today but what about tomorrow and next week or next year? The next words of Jesus were the mark of true discipleship and freedom; “If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.†The true disciple of Christ receives and continues in the word of his master. This expression of Jesus that we have just read expands and illustrates the difference, believing that Christ speaks the truth and believing in Him. Many ancients in the time of Christ and many modern Christians believe Christ’s word as is verified by their moral consciousness and either dispute or dispose of the rest as un-necessary. The true disciple abides or continues in the word of Him who is “The Incarnate Wordâ€. They will yield entirely to the absoÂlute reality of Christ’s Word as the truth about God and man. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 10:22, "He that endureth to the end shall be saved". Enduring is not a condition of Salvation, it is however a proof or evidence that we have passed already, from death unto life. “If ye conÂtinue in my word then are ye my disciples indeedâ€. .Here Christ intimated that those spoken of in vs-30 and the 1st part of vs-31, who are said to believe on Him were not genuine disciples. The one who has been truly saved will not fall away; and the one who does fall away was never truly saved What Jesus is saying in vs-32 is that to come fully to know the truth is to realize in the very depth of your being the trustworthy character of His word. Jesus said in John 14:6 "I AM the way the truth and the life" He called His own name TRUTH. Now the jews who had believed Him did not have their pride and self importance offended when they were told that they would know the truth; But when they were told that the truth would make them free it became a whole new ball-game. Truth can only set the mind free from its bondage under ignorance and evil habit. This offer of Freedom for simply continuing in His Word was too startling a suggestion to the just now growing and imperfect faith of the jews. In vs-24 Jesus told them that if they had no faith, or did not believe on Him that they would die in their sins; now they are told that if they did not abide steadfastly in His word that their hearts and minds could not escape the harsh sinful reality of the world. . .they would remain in bondage to sin. The truth of the words of Christ to these jews bears a striking connection between three things; (1) “Continue in My word†(2) “ye shall know the truth and (3) the truth shall make you free.†The truth grants Spiritual Liberty, it frees one from the power of the devil. II Cor 4:3-4 and it delivers one from the darkness of spiritual death. .Eph 4:17-18. Even the suggestion that they were in bondage brought forth an angry response from the jews. .vs-33, “We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man:how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?†From the Holy Word of God we hear the voice of the Canaanite Jew who for over the past 2,OOO and some odd hundred years has belched forth the lie that they are the Israel Race of God and had that lie pushed forth by the weak sold out preachers in the social world church pulpit. If the jew was never in bondage to any man then someone tell me please, “Who were the people that were enslaved in Egypt for 400-years? If the jews were never in bondage to any man whom did Moses lead through the Red Sea? What people then received the Royal Law Word of God at Mount Sinai? What people entered into a covÂenant relationship with Yahweh the One True and Ever Living God? What peoÂple is it that can step forward and rightfully claim to be the heirs of the Promise to Abraham,Isaac and Jacob? If the jews were never in bondage to any man, and they said they were not, then they cannot be Israel so we must look elsewhere for that particular treasure and peculiar people whom God said is His Israel family in the earth. We must look to the seed that “walk up and down in His name (Christians) Zech 10:12. We must look to a people who have carried the Gospel of the Kingdom to all of the nations in the earth and a people who use the record of His Adamic Race (Gen 5:1) and carry it where ever they go. The writer of the Gospel of John was not a stupid man and it was not he that represents the Jews as being ignorant to the national and political history of Israel. What we are seeing here in this 33-rd verse is a distinction being drawn between the seed of AbraÂham which is Israel and,the family of Abraham which is anyone born of anyone who could trace their ancestry back to Abraham through spurious mixing of the seed. Ishmael was a son of Abraham but he was not the progenitor of the seed line family of Abraham. Instead he became the father of the Arabic people who show by their countenance that they are not a pure blood or seed line. In their Genetic inability then to comprehend the scope of Christ’s words they say to Him “how sayest thou?†Or they are really asking Jesus, "Upon what principle do you promise that to us which we already posess? Is it from the emancipating power of truth? If so forget it for we have the truth and are the depositories of infallible truth. They are thus telling Jesus that no matter how dubious or mixed is their ancestry, they have the freedom which He offers because of their birthright (which we know to be stolen). As a Caucasian Christian, Anglo-Saxon Israelite I know that before my regeneration which is a work performed on me by God the Holy Spirit and after I am quickened and made alive by that same Holy Spirit, before all of this, my condition as a natural man is far worse than the average soÂcial church pastor or Sunday School Teacher supposes. Natural man is a fallen creature, totally depraved with no soundness in him, he is completeÂly under the dominion of sin and a “bond slave†to its lusts. Eph 2:2 says that natural man “walks to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air"...Satan the devil. From all of this, nothing can deliver but, ‘the truth of Godâ€. The next thing we read is verse 34 & 35: “Verily verily I say unto you Whosoever commiteth sin is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house forever; but the Son abidith ever.†This does not mean or apply to everyone who commits separate acts of transgressions as it does in John 3:20-21. It does however mean, "everyone who is living a life of sin" is the bond-slave of sin. Here is the problem with the jews; The notion of personal transgression producing bondage, and binding together the soul and the will and separating it from the glorious liberty of true sonship was far outside of their idea of discipleship. These jews did not desire deliverance from sin and its bondage; what they did want was the full realization of National Hope. Today the jews dream of "National Hope" is alive and sick as a dog in the land of our Fore-fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This dream of a jewish state in the Middle East was made a reÂality by Ephraim and Manasseh or by Great Britain and the United States of America. When Christ returns and sets His Throne in Jerusalem the Jews will be trodden down under-foot and we will see mass Exodus of the Anglo-Saxon Israel people from the four corners of the earth to claim that land of Promise that Yahweh made with Father Abraham. Praise God from whom all blessings flow for happy is the one who is conscious of the bondage of sin. Most of the commentators and interpreters of scripture are far from being in agreement on vs-35. I want to start by saying that servitude or service are made manifest in the House of God. The servant spoken of in vs-35 is the bond-servant or the one who makes a continous practice of sinning (one who sins and does not repent). Such a one as this abides not in the house forever and “house†here signifies family, as in the house of Jacob, the House of Israel or the House of God...Hebrews 3:1-6. A bon-slave , so long as he is ruled by a servile spirit finds no perputuity in his relation to the father and can be sold away. .Gen 21:10 & Gal 4:30. He is an involuntary subject of the law, who belongs to the theocracy as a mere slave. Because he cannot help himself and occupies a position which a slave does in the family of sin, and has lost all freedom and spontaneity in serviee, he will find himself cast out at the last. When the subject at hand switches to the Son things change drastically for Sonship is the only principle on which continuance in the house can be secured. Surely Jesus has the case of Isaac and Ishmael in mind here. Now, this statement enunciated a general principle that is true of every member of God’s famÂily. . .“the Son abideth foreverâ€. However, the direct reference was clearÂly to Christ Himself as we shall see in vs-36 where “Son†is clearly interÂpreted as and restricted to the Lord Jesus. “Therefore if the Son (who abideth ever in the Fathers bosom, and fills the house with His glory, and is the heir of all things) make you free, you shall be free indeed,,. The Son is He Who gives power to become the sons of God, Rom 8:2. . “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.†Only by acquiring the true spirit and regenerated life of a son can we be delivered from the bondage of sin. A full and believing apprehension of the Son of God and what and who He is, confers a new life. The Incarnate son of God as a veritable Son of man can free the soul that is chained by the tyrany of nature. Essential freedom comes to him who knows that sin is pardoned, that death is vanquished and that Satan is a defeated rebel and is cast out. The jews look for power on earth and a ruler that is a man who would be king, while the disciples of christ or the christians in the world long to see the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven as a bride adorned for her husband, with it's gates, it's crystal stream and the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb as the light of it. Yes the Sons are free indeed and it makes no difference what the world or the philosophers might say or think. The freedom of perfect service and the glorious liberty of the Sons of God are ours, in that we have accepted our emancipation from the Son Himself. I Cor 7:22; Romans 8: 34-36 . Jesus in vs-37 tells the Pharisee jews that yes, He knows that they are Abrahams seed and then proceeded to show them that hereditary descent would be of no avail to them apart from moral considerations when He says to them,â€but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you,,. We need to recall the words of Paul from Gal 3:29, "And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise". How in the world could one imagine these jews to be Christ’s or in Christ as believÂers when they sought to kill Him? You couldn’t imagine it because it just isn’t so, and neither is it so that they are the legitimate seed of AbÂraham and heirs to the Promise. Paul did not believe the judaizers of his day and we should not believe those same judaizers of our day. Jesus 1eveled the charge of conspiracy to commit murder (His) against the jews, and I ask you, is this the same jews of vs-31 who “believed on Him?†Yes it is. We must make a choice among three suppositions: 1. The believing jews were surrounded by large groups of His bitter eneÂmies, to whom Christ was addressing. 2. Jesus was speaking to these jews as representing the large company of opponents in Jerusalem whom He knew to be planning His death. 3. Those who had come to believe Him up to a certain point had relapsed at the first touch of spiritual proof, into disbelief and hostility. I will opt for the third choice here because the belief of the jews was terribly shallow thus making them very defensive, up to the point of doing murder. It is my strong belief that the reason the jews could not continue in the word is because the word had no place in them, and there was in them an awful enmity against Christ. .Gen 3:15! In vs-38 we will witness the growth of the gulf of seperation between Jesus and these Pharisee jews. “I speak the things which I have seen with my Father:and you do that which you have seen with your father. We dare not limit the Lord’s vision of the Divine things which He saw with the Father. From all that you can read in the Bible, Jesus describes himself as being in constant communion with the Father. The Father is with Him, and He knows the mind, the will and the good pleasure of the Father. His is the perfectly pure heart. In the previous verse Jesus had agreed that these men were the seed of Abraham (Though dubious, or even spurious in nature), yet He had also furnished proof that they were not the children of God. Now we see The Lord Jesus as He leads up to their real parentage. He stated for fact that the doctrine which He taught came forth from Yahweh-Elohim, the Thrice Holy One, such was His Father. Then, “Ye do that which you have seen with your fatherâ€, Jesus says to the jews;â€Your actions tell who your father is My doctrine tells who my Father isâ€. In both cases father seems to be the very being after whom the character is fashioned...the being under whom the moral inÂfluence is formed. The conduct and sentiments of men are things that are formed or patterned after some one and are indicative of the character of that certain some one. If your conduct and sentiments are pure and Christ-Âlike then it shows that the God of Abraham is your Father. If your conduct and sentiments are immoral, untruthfulness and morally degenerate your father is not the God of Abraham. These jews had a strong suspicion that something was bad gone wrong, but they pressed forward in their ignorance. When they said to Jesus, “Abraham is our father†it was the self righteousness of the natural man speaking in his own vanity. They were attempting to contrast themselves from the heathen by trying to pass themselves off as the people of the covenant, the people of the “Jewish Churchâ€. That sounds like so many of the denominational churches of today, all of whom think that they are the only ones who are going to be in heaven. Me? I will settle for a place in the kingdom of God in the earth with Christ Jesus on the throne. That they were of the seed of Abraham Christ acknowledged them to be, but the children of Abraham they were not. Their bastardized descent from the Ishmaelites, from Esau or another seed mingling race traitor is enough to disqualify them from the family of God. Listen to this all who would believe that the jews are the Elect family of God in the earth; "Neither because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children;but in Isaac shall thy seed be called". .Rom 9:7. Tbe paranoia must have been mounting among the jews, about this time, for today they know that the seed of Isaac is where the true Israel of God is to be found and that is among the sons of Isaac, Isaac's sons, SAXONS! Not a jew alive can pass himself off as a true Saxon. How about you dear Christian friend? Is the test of Isaac good enough for you? . The tension had to be mounting on this last day of the Feast of TaberÂnacles, Jesus was accusing the Jews of plotting to murder Him and the Jews were trying to cover it up by pleading kin-ship with Abraham. In vs-39 Jesus once again tells the jews that if Abraham were Their father they would do the works of Abraham which would be the works of faith, they wouÂld have accepted the heavenly voice of Jesus and been open to have access of spiritual revelations with child-like simplicity. They would have resemÂbled Abraham in his moral sensitiveness his gentle kindness and in his vicÂtorious faith. .BUT! But now (or as things are) ye seek to kill me (by plotÂting, contriving in subtle ways and by lies and false charges). All was made very obvious by our Lord’s discovery of the plot and then by allowing both friends and foes alike that He had penetrated the thin disguise under which this murderous plan was veiled. There was a look of guilt in the countenance of some, a fierce admission of the charges in the looks and gestures of others and the murmurs of a confused crowd, for the crises had arrived in full. Jesus, for the first time in all of the discourse with the jews spoke of Himself as a man; "But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth". He shows Himself a man or as one who is subject to their murderous passion. His manhood was the one link between God who had sent Him, taught Him and enveloped Him and the consciousness of his hearers. The jews now made it clear that they wanted no part of His messÂage and were seeking to drown out the heavenly voice and trample a sacred messenger. “This did not Abrahamâ€. Abraham heard and obeyed the voice Of Yahweh with child-like faith and docility. The visions, the commands the manifesÂtations of God to Abraham were so readily accepted that his greatest name is “Friend of Godâ€. These jews while hearing the Divine word and sacred message from one whom God had sent showed nothing but malice toward all three. This in and of itself should be enough to prove their lack of reÂlationship with the life of Abraham. In vs-41 Jesus said to the jews, "Ye do the deeds of your Father." This is to say to them, “Abraham is not your father, but you do have a father with whom you have a living, ethical relation. If you persist in boasting of your father, who is neither THE FATHER, nor Abraham,I must soon tell you who that father is. Their retort to this was loud, abrupt and startÂling; "We are not born of fornication; we have one father, God." There are few expositors who agree with what I am going to say next, but I suppose that in spite of or possibly because of my lack of formal education in a Theological institution of higher learning, I may pull this one off: I believe that the jews began to babble and become confused because of their bastardized heritage. I think that they strove too hard here to keep their true ancestry a secret. Call me wrong, but I want someone to show me in scripture where God chose the jews instead of Israel. The nicest thing we could possibly say of the jews at this point is they may have descended through the Ishmaelites or the Idumeans. The honest or most truthful thing that can be said is no matter what blood-line they claim, they are mixed or bastardized with the Canaanite races of ancient times and carry the gene package of that evil one, that old serpent the devil. In vs-42 thru 47 the Canaanite jews begin to nail their own coffin shut and pulling the dirt in on top of it. They said in vs-41 “we be not born of fornication,we have one father, even Godâ€. This remark may fool the preachers and Sunday school teachers in the Social world church, but it did not fool Jesus. With his next words to them He will not allow them to claim the full privilege of “sons of Godâ€. . .Jesus said unto them, "If God were your Father you would love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent Me". If these jews were truly Israel, the children or family of God in the earth, they would not seek to kill the God-man Jesus;they would recognize Him and know Him and Love Him. The statement of Jesus “for I proceeded forth and came from (or out of) God†is used only one other time in scripture in John-16:28. In both places it points to the momentous fact of His incarnation and the very essence of God being projected into the essence of His Being. We are shown here that the Father is the source of the Son’s Divine nature for all eternity. We are shown much the same thing by the author of, the epistle to the Hebrews 1:3. Jesus said to the jews,â€I came forth from God,neither came I of myself, but He sent meâ€. Jesus told them that He was face to face with them at the bidding of God. He dismissed every other reason or alternative that could arise for His presence there. He came not to do His own will, but the will of God, His Father, and it certainly appears that the idea here is to expose the true nature of those who demanded the blood of Christ and the genetic/racial stock from where they came. If they were truly God’s childÂren they would have recognized Jesus as the One in whom God was revealing Himself. Here in vs-43 we read that Jesus accuses them of not having ears to hear, and this goes hand in glove with not having eyes to see. If they were the true Israel of God, this would not be the case for Jesus in John 10:27 said that His sheep hear His voice "I know them and they follow me". In scripture Israel is referred to as God’s son, to His first-born Israel belonged the adoption or placement as sons...Rom 8:15 & 23 and 9:4. Let me put it this way, the Jews could not hear nor understand the words of Jesus because they could not spiritually discern. They were, in all of their ancestry, under the influence of that “Old Serpent†the devil that made them deaf to the voice of truth. Now, in verse 44, without a moments hesitation, with no feeling of sorÂrow and without pity Jesus asserts the true parentage of the jews; "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do". The deÂsire of the jews was to carry on, and carry out the work of Satan in this earth. Here we see Jesus express completely what He had said twice before in a rather obscure fashion, that they(the jews)are of their father the devil. No one, not even the jews, could hate the Son of God so much were it not that their father was the perpetual enemy of God. The assertion which Jesus made of the jews was founded on truth, for it was justified by a right interpretation of their conduct. The jews manifested the two traits of the devils character; 1. Their hatred of Adam man and 2. Their aversion to the truth...Let man pretend what he will, his conduct is still the best test of his character. As Christians we are called the children of God and we try to act as He would have us. Not only that but He govÂerns our lives by His Spirit and Christ lives in us, conforming us to the image of His Father. The exact same thing is said of these jews and their father the devil; they act as he would in any given situation, they imiÂtate him and are led by his prompting in his fight against Christ and all that is righteous and holy. We must understand, even if the social church and all around us refuse to see that, all men are born sinners. .Psalm 51:5.. but not all men are born children of the devil. The fact that some are born children of the devil is in no way connected to creation, but it is connected to pro-creation of an out of kind or bastard seed/race of men. The blame for evil men even existing cannot be placed on God, for Christ declares here in vs-44 “the lusts of your father you will doâ€. This is what they desire to do because they are voluntary slaves and cheerful servants of the devil, their genetic father. .Gen 3:15! Scripture has painted for us a stirring and ugly portrait of the father of the jews, the Devil; "He was a murderer from the beginning and stood not in the truth , because there is no truth in him. When He speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own;for he is a liar and the father of it". These words imply that the devil is not simply the personification of evil, but say that he is an existing, living evil entity. There are two main charÂacteristics of the devil; First, he is a murderer for he brought death inÂto the world thru his subtilty & falsehoods, II Cor 11:3; He has had a long history of murder with his first act being in Paradise/Eden with the death of Abel at the hands of Cain who was of that wicked one. . I John 3:12.; He also prompted the traitorous act of Judas Iscariot to secure the death of Christ and tempts sinners today toward their own destruction. Secondly, Satan the devil is the enemy to all truth for, “There is no truth in Himâ€. His own evil nature brings forth elaborate lies from his storeÂhouse of deceit. He was the first liar and first murderer;a liar first because he deceived our genetic parents Adam and Eve to their destruction. He was the author of the “first lie†when he told Adam and Eve “Ye shall not surely die! Understand this, as soon as man was created, Satan was impelled by a wicked desire to harm and hurt, he directed all his strength to destroying the first Adam. He also directed his energy to the seduction of Eve and having his offspring break the matrix and claim the Birthright. Going to this extreme and knowing full well that under God's law of seed after seed and kind after kind his bastard son Cain could inherit nothing makes him even more stupid than one could imagine. In vs-45 Jesus accuses the jews of disbelieving His words of truth, and the way He tells them is the same as saying to them that if He were to tell them lies, these they would readily believe. What is proven out in this part of our study is this; The tragic truth here is the unparalleled implication of the willing estrangement of the jews from God. They show here a wilful rejection of known truth, simply because it is truth. At the same time they readily embrace a lie because it is darkness and the darkness is their love. This was the problem of Adam and Eve, the readiÂness to believe and accept a lie, and it remains a problem in our people even until today. Next Jesus said to the jews, "Which of you convicteth me of sin". I know your Bible says convinceth, but what He really asked is who could call Him a liar;" If you deny what I have said and charge me with a lie, how will you prove your charge? The charge of lying was propped up with a charge of madness also, but rather than convict Him or convince man-kind, they are instead covered for all time with the shame of their own incompÂetence and sin. Now, Jesus stands before them, without sin and cloaked in eternal truth and says to them for all to hear, "If I say the truth, why do you not believe me?" The reason lies with them, not in Him, and their non-belief discloses no flaw in His revelation. Jesus marvelled at their unÂbelief. He is from God and they are from God’s great enemy, and He stood before them in moral perfection as Jesus the God-man. At every development of His official character, in conflict or in sorrow, when smarting from treachery or even when dying alone on the Cross, “He is Perfectâ€! I am angry to the point of doing great harm at the inference of the jews in vs-48: "thou art a Samaritan and hast a devil". How dare they, the most evil people on earth to draw breath and they say this of the only begotten Son of God. Do you know why they said this at the time they did? In vs-47 Jesus had revealed Himself to them as the “Great I AM†when He said that He heard God’s words. This stipulated for all to hear that only those who are of a "Divine origin and a Spiritual nature" will hear what man cannot. This was why they called Him a Samaritan, to cover for their own inability to hear the words of God and accuse Him of a gross lack of national patriotism and heresy. The very charge of being a Samaritan and having or being demon possessed suggests that they were trying to have Jesus looked upon as their National enemy. This charge was one that was always used by the jews as a final insulting charge, and they still use it today! These jews knew full well that Jesus was a Galilaean and they also knew that Jesus had spoken nothing but the truth and had not the pride and lying spirit of a demon. As far as life and death went, these jews had no conception of either. The proof that they were so far removed from anything godly is the way that they failed to comprehend that Abraham and the prophets could live. They used this in a crude attempt to darken the glory of Christ and do injury to Abraham and the prophets by misusing their names against Christ. In replying to the jews unfair comparison Jesus begins by saying that He did not seek His own glory, and cuts short their attempt at slander. Jesus even says here that He desires no glory other than what had been given Him by the Father. This tells us that when God glorifies His Son,! He will not allow the world to despise Him with impunity and this is what the jews do, The jews, unable to hear and understand the words of Jesus throughout this whole discourse in the temple on this last day of the Feast of TaberÂnacles resorted to the only answer they had for their ignorance. . .Violence against the Holy One, for they “took up stones to cast at him. Their thouÂght was in vain for Christ delivered Himself from their presence, but in such a way as not to display His Divinity plainly. What we must not fail to see here is that the same people , the wicked priests and scribes still retained possession of the outward temple. But they are really deceived when they think that they can have a temple and possession of it without the presence of God. If Jesus were to enter the Social World churches toÂday with the same message of this 8th chapter of John, He would be receiÂved in much the same manner. The pastors and teachers would protest indigÂnantly if accused of teaching false doctrine and being bond-slaves to sin. When the scripture said that Christ “hid Himselfâ€, I think He would do much the same today, Hide his face from the self righteous and self sufficient, religious formalists who deny that they need to be made free from the slavery of sin.......O Yahweh God we pray that thy will be done in all things and plead for thy Grace and thy mercy in these times of Great Trouble. Cause us to make our one desire to be that of your command law Word and "Occupy until Your return" in the blessed name of Jesus Christ......Amen!!
