Two Tough Questions

By Mikkel Stjernholm Kragh

Question no. 1:

If a World War was raging, which of the following two empires would you hope won?

The first empire was based on the principle of all men being equal, and it severely criminalized racism, nationalism, and gender discrimination. In this empire, there was separation of church and state.

The second empire had a state church. This empire had a coloured majority, but only the White minority had the right to vote. The coloured majority had, with a few exceptions, no right to vote. The prime minister believed that the goal of Trotzkite Communism was “a world-wide communistic State under Jewish domination”, and the king wrote that “I am sure the British Israelite business is true. I have read a lot about it lately and everything no matter how large or small points to our being the chosen race.”

Now, which of the two empires would you hope won?

After you have answered the question, here are the details:

The war was WWII.

The first empire was the Soviet Union.

The second empire was the British Empire, which then covered one quarter of the earth’s surface. The prime minister was Winston Churchill, and the quote from The Illustrated Sunday Herald, 8th February, 1920. The king was George VI, who ruled from 1936 to 1952, and the quote is from 1922.

Question no. 2:

During WWII, the Soviet Union was labelled as Communist, and Germany was labelled as National Socialist. But if you had to give the British Empire a label, what would it be?
