Title: Will Freedom of Information requests be abolished soon? Post by: admin on November 20, 2010, 01:54:35 AM Will Freedom of Information requests be abolished soon?
The government is making a big deal out of publishing all spending above £25,000 under the guise of public transparency but naturally I smell a rat. The ever increasing numbers of freedom of information requests into spending by government departments, councils, and other institutions, especially on insidious Common Purpose training etc, is causing their secretive agenda many headaches. I believe they are doing this so they can abolish freedom of information requests by claiming that they are no longer needed due to this false transparency nonsense. Of course the £25,000 threshold is too high for it to have any meaning, especially considering Common Purpose training doesn’t cost that much, and invoices can be broken up into smaller amounts to keep them below £25,000 and so free from the public gaze. In addition they simply don’t have to publish such spending, and without freedom of information requests, we’ll not be able to find out. Let’s not also forget that Francis Maude is the man pushing this policy. What are your thoughts? http://forums.ukcolumn.org/showthread.php?tid=2700 |
