News Nov 10 2010

2010-10-05 Barend Steyn (73) Bloemspruit smallholdings, murdered  73-year-old Afrikaner smallholder Barend Steyn of Bloemspruit, was found murdered on Friday afternoon. His son, Callie Steyn, arrived to visit him and when he did not come out to greet them as usual, Steyn jr went inside and found his father in the second bedroom on the ground. His hands were tied up and a piece of cloth was wrapped around his head and face. Next to his body were a pick-axe handle and a clothing iron - which was still plugged in. He had been tortured. A black suspect was arrested on Sunday in the vicinity.http://www.nuus24.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Bejaarde-boer-vermoor-20101108-2     2010-10-09 Niek Conradie, 64, survives day-light attack by three gangsters, Kroonstad city centre  A black armed gang assaulted an elderly, unarmed Afrikaner man so badly in the Kroonstad central town that it left him unconscious on a sidewalk -- whilst onlookers just glanced and then walked on… without helping him. The three black attackers who besieged the defenseless Niek Conradie (64) in broad daylight  pushed him about very roughly and pepper sprayed his eyes. http://www.nuus24.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Bejaarde-in-erge-aanval-beroof-20101109  264 fertile maize farms in the Free State are failures: lying unused and empty -- but the ANC still keeps on confiscating commercial land…  More than 264 once very fertile and productive farms in the maize-belt of the Free State in South Africa now lay unused and empty – the black ‘beneficiaries’ of these formerly white-owned farms do not have the means nor the skills to undertake any farming activities. Democratic Alliance leader in the province Roy Jankielsohn, writes that ‘whenever such government projects fail, the ANC-regime just ‘buys up’ more land and ‘launches new projects. “Food-security, sustainability are secondary to the politics involved. We cannot allow commercial farmers to get the blame for the government’s disastrous ‘land-reform projects,’ he  says. http://www.volksblad.com/MyVolksblad/Briewe/Soveel-plase-le-onbewerk-20101108  --------------------------------------  Furious medics, doctors from 3 hospitals demonstrate against gang-rape of Pelonomi Hospital paediatrician in Bloemfontein     2010-11-10 BLOEMFONTEIN MAGISTRATE’S COURT - Three black males, Thabang Motlhabane (29), Ntsokolo Nkwali (24) and a 16-year old illegal migrant from Lesotho, faced the fury of hundreds of protesting white-coated medical students and medical personnel from three Bloemfontein hospitals when they appeared for the gang rape of a 35-year-old female paediatrician at the Pelonomi Hospital on Saturday, October 30 in broad daylight. http://www.volksblad.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Woedende-artse-ruk-op-na-hof-20101110         The three black males are accused of beating her in the face with a brick and then gang-raping her brutally. After the rape, they allegedly strolled past the security gate of the hospital and hung the rape victim’s cellphone on the fence.     Magistrate K Majali had to postpone the case to the next day because legal counsel  for the defence still had to be arranged.   Volksblad journalist Pieter Steyn reports that ‘hundreds of doctors and medical personnel in white coats from Pelonomi, National and Universitas Hospitals demonstrated outside the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on November 9 2010.  Defence Adv. Ena Liebenberg twice had to ask the magistrate to remove people who weren’t relatives from the court-room because one accused was a minor and was not allowed to be identified. Even the ANC’s local MEC for health Sisi Mabe was ordered to leave the courtroom.  Among the demonstrators also were students from the medical faculty and “Bikers against Abuse” – but the African National Congress members eventually ‘hijacked’ the demo by loudly chanting ‘freedom songs’, writes Steyn. (Why they felt the need to do this, is a mystery.)  A petition was handed to acting chief-magistrate Johan Botha by Dr Deon Menge and Dr Mpho Mohlala of the SA Medical Society, asking that the court refuse bail to the three accused – including the 16-year-old – and that ‘the heaviest possible punishment be meted out to them.’ .http://www.volksblad.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Woedende-artse-ruk-op-na-hof-20101110
